The 5th

Pro Tips
The fifth hole at Lewes Golf Club, a par 4, presents a strategic challenge. The fairway bunker is a significant hazard, threatening both long drives from the tee and potentially catching a second shot if the initial drive is not well-placed. For those seeking a safer approach, laying up is a prudent option. While the fairway exhibits a pronounced rightward slope, landing in the right-hand rough can actually be advantageous, offering a viable angle for an approach onto the hole's long, narrow green.

The Lynchets
Whilst on the 5th fairway look to your right at the slopes of the hills on the other side of the valley. You should be able to see an extensive pattern of ridges and ledges showing through the grass. These are Lynchets, marks made by prehistoric man ploughing the land. Lynchets can also be seen in the fields running to the right-hand side of the eighth and ninth fairways.
