🌿 Lewes Golf Club is a Finalist for the Environmental Sustainability Award at the 2025 Active Sussex Awards!

Lewes Golf Club is thrilled to announce we have been shortlisted as a finalist for the Environmental Sustainability Award at the prestigious Sussex Sport & Physical Activity Awards 2025, hosted by Active Sussex!

This recognition is a huge honour, especially given the exceptionally high standard among the over 200 nominations received this year. Being selected as one of the top three finalists for this award is a powerful testament to the club's commitment to protecting and enhancing our beautiful setting within the South Downs National Park.

Teeing Off a Greener Future

Our shortlisting highlights the success of our long-term environmental strategy, which focuses on innovation, reducing our carbon footprint, and promoting biodiversity. Key initiatives include:

• Carbon Neutral Operations: The installation of our state-of-the-art Solar Carport with 104 solar panels, which is projected to generate over 62,000 kWh of clean energy annually, making our clubhouse operations effectively carbon neutral.

• Sustainable Construction: Using innovative ground screw anchors instead of traditional concrete foundations for the carport to minimise construction impact on our delicate downland environment.

• Biodiversity Champions: Active habitat management, including installing bird boxes for native species (Starlings, Swifts, and Barn Owls) and maintaining beehives to support vital pollinators. We proudly work in harmony with the local ecosystem, encouraging increased sightings of birds of prey like kestrels and peregrine falcons.

• Natural Course Care: Our commitment extends to sustainable course maintenance, which includes a 'cut-and-collect' program to encourage native wildflowers and a commitment to operating chemical-free—we do not use fungicides or pesticides.
